Having Fun in Fall

Jay took this picture of me through the big window in the front of our house. (That's why there are some weird reflections.) It was such a nice day yesterday that I wanted to spend some time outside.

I raked leaves in the front yard for about an hour. According to the information at LoseIt, that should have equaled about 320 calories burned. Hopefully, it offset the calories I ate at supper last night. Jay and I went to the Sands Casino because we wanted to see the new outlet shopping mall that opened yesterday. (It's connected to the casino and the hotel.) I regretted the hamburger I ordered as soon as I started eating it. It was way too big.

Most of the snow in our yard has melted, but the snow across the street is still there. Our side of the street gets better exposure to the sun, so our side of the street looks like fall, and the other side looks like winter.

This may sound strange, but I'm looking forward to shoveling snow, too. That and raking leaves are my two favorite types of yard work.

  1. I've been amazed by how many calories yard work burns. I keep wanting to work on mine, but we've been under this crazy drought restriction so it seems like there is no point at putting a garden together this year. My mother is in Dallas and she said their on emergency drought restrictions now, too - only allowed to water ever 2 weeks! Still no rain in sight.

Your yard looks beautiful!! I can see all the leaves you must have raked because there a bunch behind you! Nice job!!

  2. Laura, I've been to Dallas once during summer. I don't know how anyone can garden when it's that hot outside! I can't even manage to do much outside when it's summer here in Pennsylvania, mostly because we get a lot of humid weather.

I feel badly for you about the drought. I can imagine how restricting that must be. It's a shame we can't send some of our extra water down your way.

That pile of leaves is the third big pile I've raked so far. I have a lot more to do. The sugar maple has lost most of its leaves, but the magnolia still has a lot of greenery. I'm not even going to bother with the back yard this year. ;-)
