SteelStacks Farmers Market: Cake, Quiche and Pastries

In spite of the cloudy weather, Jay and I went to the SteelStacks farmers market this afternoon. We missed one of our favorite vendors at last week's market, so we hoped to see her today, since the market ends for the season in early November.

Unfortunately, the sun hid while I was taking pictures. The clouds probably kept some of the crowd away, too. It was much busier in summer. The vendor space in the market was also a little smaller because it's the same area where the Oktoberfest celebration is happening on the weekend. Luckily for me, Lisa from the Hereford Country Store was at the market today, with her wonderful cake slices and quiches.

It's really hard to beat a view like that. The whole SteelStacks area looks amazing.

I brought home one slice of banana cake for me and a spinach and bacon quiche for Jay from the Hereford Country Store. We also bought two meat pies and two garlic turnovers from Darlene at the Chestnut Hill Farm stand. I couldn't resist the lure of garlic (and pastry). It's also nice knowing the food is made from local ingredients and doesn't contain preservatives.

I'm already looking forward to seeing both ladies at least one more time before the market ends for the year. It's great being able to support local vendors, especially when they make such delicious treats!
